As part of our commitment to supporting patients living with epilepsy and their caregivers, UCB has awarded more than 400 UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarships, over the past 13 years, to people whose lives have been directly affected by epilepsy.

This year, we awarded 32 UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarships™, including two $10,000 Epilepsy Leader Scholarships and thirty $5,000 scholarships to support the educational goals and aspirations of people living with or impacted by epilepsy. The financial awards will be used to fund technical, undergraduate, graduate, or professional education.

Our recipients came from 16 states and are currently attending 32 different schools across the United States. As part of their applications, they shared their personal experiences with epilepsy, academic pursuits, and community achievements. Recipients were selected from a pool of more than 500 applicants by a committee of healthcare professionals and EpilepsyAdvocate™.

The 2017 recipients are pursuing different degrees including undergraduate education, graduate and doctoral work, nursing school, technical college, and more. Many of this year’s recipients are living with epilepsy and others are caregivers or advocates caring for someone impacted by the disease.

The Epilepsy Leader Scholarship is a special award in honor of the late Sandra Helmers, M.D., M.P.H. and the late John M. Pellock, M.D., who were trailblazers in epilepsy research and treatment. This award recognizes individuals advocating for others, positively contributing to the epilepsy community, and embodying a persevering spirit.

The application for the 2018 UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program™ is open now to people living with or impacted by epilepsy. The deadline for the 2018 scholarship is due March 5, 2018. Apply now. UCB looks forward to awarding our 2018 recipients, and wishes the 2017 scholarship recipients success as they continue their education this fall.
