At UCB, we are committed to accelerating scientific discoveries by supporting innovation — leading to the discovery of new solutions that help patients achieve their goals. As part this commitment, we believe it is important to support STEM education in our local communities to help inspire the next generation of scientists.

This year, UCB is pleased to support several STEM initiatives in the North Carolina area:

  • SciFest – SciFest is STEM in the Park's student event, as part of the North Carolina Science Festival. At the event, UCB volunteers worked with small groups of students from grades seven through twelve to solve a real-world challenge through design thinking and ideation. Colleagues also talked with students about their journeys to becoming a STEM professional.

  • STEMposium – WakeEd’s SummerSTEM program empowers K-12 teachers to bring real-world lessons to the classroom through partnerships with leading STEM organizations in Research Triangle Park (RTP). Inspired educators and their students present their project-based learning units to the public at this annual event.

  • SummerSTEM Day – SummerSTEM is an award-winning, eight-day professional development program that exists to enrich educators’ understanding of the knowledge and skills that are necessary to succeed in STEM careers. This program is a collaboration between WakeEd Partnership, the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), and numerous STEM businesses and organizations in North Carolina. UCB is proud to partner for the second year with this program to further develop STEM programs in high schools in our community.

At UCB, being “Inspired by Patients. Driven by Science” is more than a tagline, it’s our way of working. It’s the drive for science and passion for patient care that ultimately bring solutions for unmet needs of patients. We are proud to play our part in supporting the next generation of scientists so one day they can further scientific understanding and uncover new discoveries.
