Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with our ACES Employee Resource Group

UCB is committed to creating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the communities where we live and in our workplace. This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re highlighting ACES, our employee resource group established to help Asian employees connect, explore professional growth opportunities, and raise awareness and inclusivity within UCB.

What is Asians Committed to Excellence and Success (ACES)?

ACES is a new Employee Resource Group (ERG) established to help Asian employees connect, explore professional growth opportunities, and raise awareness and inclusivity within UCB. We also provide advocacy to hire and promote employees into leadership roles.

Why did UCB establish this employee resource group?

UCB established this ERG to continue its mission of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the organization and providing a space for UCB’s Asian employees.

What is ACES focused on this year?

ACES is focused on retaining, developing, and promoting existing UCB ACES members and other historically underrepresented groups at UCB. We are also committed to recruiting new ERG members and are hosting an educational event for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month.

Why is it important for businesses to consider the interests and needs of Asian American employees?

It is important to ensure that all employees feel heard and represented within their workplace. It’s also important for the patients we serve to feel represented in both their cultural and demographic backgrounds. To continue the mission of retaining and growing diversity at UCB, we must understand and champion for the interests and needs of all employees.

What do you want to highlight/what do you want people to know about Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month?

We want to provide exposure to the diversity of cultures within ACES and the many backgrounds we represent. More specifically, we hope to highlight the impact of Asian Americans in this country’s history and the importance of dismantling stereotypes of Asian Americans.
